After last year's presentation of the Völker MiS® Micro-stimulation System at the Altenpflege fair, the system in this year again caused positive response at the Völker exhibition stand. The Völker MiS® Micro-stimulation System is a pressure reduction system that has been developed in cooperation with Thomashilfen and IGAP (Institute for Innovation in Health Care and Related Research) to prevent pressure sores. It is available as standard with all Völker healthcare and hospital beds. With the Völker MiS® Micro-stimulation system, the lying surface of the bed is made up of many butterfly springs. The butterfly springs are made of Polyoximethylen (POM), a recyclable plastic with high elasticity and natural stability. By means of their typical torsional characteristic, i.e. moveability and twist, and in connection with their point-elastic effect, they allow for a high degree of adjustment. The butterfly springs are removable and freely adjustable on flexible support profiles. The flexible support profiles are manufactured from fiberglass-reinforced plastic (GfK) in a special production process named Pulltrusion. Due to an optimal layout of geometrics and a balanced combination of material components, the support profiles provide high stability, bending strength and excellent load capacity. The support profiles are connected to the sides of the lying surface by means of flexible suspension units that are mounted on the frame's rails. These suspension units connect the support profiles with the bed. The Völker Micro-stimulation System is based on the concepts of basal stimulation, Bobath and kinaesthetics. The system's feedback to the occupant or patient causes somatic and vestibular stimulation. The MiS® Micro-stimulation System conveys information about his body state; little movements stimulate the occupant/patient to mobilize on his own. That way, physiological circulation of the skin, among other things, is ensured so that pressure sores can be avoided or the basic requirement for pressure sore healing can be created. The Völker MiS® Micro-stimulation System is a nursing care aid that supports and complements basal stimulating care in a sensible way, thus providing a conclusive nursing care concept for effective pressure sore prevention.
