Benefit: Design.

Innovative design brings you benefits in money's worth.
With the S 960 hospital bed, presented on the Medica 2003, Völker has achieved an important goal: The product is technically perfect. The result of the close cooperation of our own development department with its experts for customer aspects, with external experts and Porsche is now a modular system making it possible to configure Völker hospital beds in the three basic versions, S 960-, S 960-2W and S 960-1, depending on the relevant site and demand.

The fact that manufacturers try to meet customer needs is quite normal. To be able to offer innovative products in premium quality at a really favourable price/performance ratio, however, means to carry out further development on the highest level, especially in production, too. Discussions with experts are also a precondition to constantly achieve lean production, that is a reduction of turnaround times and thus to achieve an increase of productivity and process stabilisation at the same time. With regard to these measures, Völker has been drawing for years on the experiences of Porsche Consulting, with increasing success. So in order for the hospital beds to be thoroughly revised it was obvious to build on Porsche' cooperation again, this time on the know-how of Porsche Engineering.

Völker hospital beds have always been hygienically clever designed beds. Driving units are always integrated into encased components. All components have as smooth as possible surfaces. All materials used can be easily cleaned and cared for. Little maintenance is needed, and repairs hardly occur.

The recent cooperation with Porsche has produced a key innovation which is now built into every model. A piece of engineering that shall ensure the otherwise weak point of each hospital bed - spray water or even jet water capability. In order to achieve this, it was necessary for the entire lifting and drive unit to be moved from the lower area of the bed chassis - rather an unfavourable place for intense water protection - upwards directly beneath the lying surface. Here, the drive unit is now integrated into the so-called lifting jack cross-member and watertight encapsulated. The cast component holding the frame is built in a similar design as a cylinder head including gasket and - with the models S 960-2 W and S 960-1 that are both suitable for washing system - protected against high-pressure hose water according to IPX 6. With these models, the three-stage spindle telescopic height adjustment unit is additionally integrated maintenance-free into the four stainless steel bed legs. The two synchronized motors (24V low-voltage) for parallel height adjustment are equipped with a synchronization control unit which rectifies slightest directional deviations and returns the lying surface, e.g. from Trendelenburg/reverse-Trendelenburg, back into a completely even horizontal and even position.

The control is also adjusted to differentiated uses. Using this hand control unit, basically all functions that serve the patient's own mobilisation can be operated with all Völker hospital beds. With the Völker S 960-2 model, all functions can be additionally operated via a caregiver control box. The Völker S 960-2W that is suitable for washing system has a caregiver control console. It is integrated into the bedding storage; as required it can also be suspended from stainless steel bar of footboard. Locking functions for the patient's hand control unit and additional emergency positions are possible. With the Völker S 960-1 model, which is of course also suitable for washing systems, a caregiver keyboard is built into the footboard. It offers an optional function to adjust the lower leg section of the lying surface and an LCD-display to show and alter settings and parameters as well as administration of scheduled dates (such as last technical safety test and cleaning), and basic technical data (such as identity number of bed, caster tracking, etc.).

The essential benefit of model structuring is the possibility to equip hospital rooms with Völker hospital beds in a visual uniform way - even with various treatment demands for individual patients - because all design and colour variations (head- and footboards) are compatible with all three model variants.
