Detail: Völker Assist Rails. The
assist rails on Völker hospital beds, when not is use, hide away beneath
the lying surface. They are divided into four sections so that they can
be used in a variety of possible configurations, as required. They can
be raised to two positions according to the degree of protection required
- maximizing patient safety. When raised to the low position, the rails
provide a bed edge indicator and an ideal assist. When raised to the high
position, the rails provide additional protection. The four sections of the Völker assist rails automatically reposition during lying surface adjustment - maintaining the required protection in all lying surface positions, as well as when changing position. Exceptionally strong, the assist rails on Völker hospital beds are ideal aids for independent mobility. When pulled out horizontally, they can also be used as a wide shelf for bedding or therapeutic positioning. Side rails (bed grids, side grids, side protective devices, side rests) are important pieces of equipment. Their main function is to stop restless patients from falling out of bed. But they are also intended to give patients a feeling of security by defining the outer limits of their bed. A variety of side rail designs are now available, all with individual strengths and weaknesses, but in case of full length side rails, for example, they partly increase the risk of accidents because restless patients again and again try to climb over them. Studies have shown that patients in constant numbers are trying to leave a secured bed, regardless of the type of bed. Divided side rests, however, are often not stable and, when in lowered position, impair the attachment of peripheral devices. When patient's controls are integrated into the side rests, it is often very hard to operate them. Völker has quite deliberately chosen the term "assist rails" for the hospital beds, because Völker has developed assist rails to protect patients from inadvertently rolling out of bed and to provide aids for mobility. Apart from constructional clearances that protect against entrapment, the rails on Völker hospital beds are designed according to the latest ergonomic knowledge and comply fully with the DIN EN 60601-2-38 (regulations governing the design of hospital beds). Even when the assist rails are raised to the high position, the full width of the bed is kept available. |
